Friday 16 October is National Anaesthesia Day. 2020 has seen unusual stresses and challenges, and the Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists Clinical Trials Network (ANZCA CTN) is sharing how they have been met to honour the achievements of all the groups involved. Central Clinical School has recently become home to the ANZCA CTN, and we extend a warm welcome to the CCS team.

Congratulations on Academy recognition for our researchers!

have been elected Fellows of the Australian Academy of Health
and Medical Sciences
28 of the nation’s top medical and health researchers have been elected as Fellows of the Australian  Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS) in recognition of their outstanding contributions  to the health and medical research landscape in Australia, including 13 women.  The new Fellows are elected at a time when health and medical science is making a crucial  contribution to the nation’s future, as the community works to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. Many  of them have been pivotal in this response in Australia and overseas.

Three Monash University researchers were elected, all from the sub-Faculty of Translational Medicine and Public Health. Warmest congratulations to Central Clinical School's Professors Anton Peleg and Merlin Thomas, and Andrew Forbes (School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine See more about their work below.

New era of personalised epilepsy management

The British Medicine Journal (BMJ) has launched a series of articles profiling brain health. In their words,  "what it is, why it is important, and how we can better prevent and treat brain disorders to improve health across the world, especially as populations become older."

Professor Patrick Kwan and colleagues contribute to the series with their article, "New era of personalised epilepsy management". They write, "The trial and error approach to epilepsy treatment has not changed for over a century but machine learning and patient-derived stem cells promise a personalised and more effective strategy."

Following the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, international clinicians and researchers have joined
forces to publish a compendium answering questions related to COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2.

Monash researchers Professor Robyn O’Hehir and Associate Professor Menno van Zelm were members on a panel of experts answering 150 key questions relating to SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19 and allergy.
