On Sunday 25 August, 1600 runners and walkers helped raise almost $20,000 while enjoying sunny conditions on the beautiful Kew Boulevard to support mental health awareness and research in the 33rd annual de Castella Run. The event, named after Olympic marathoner Robert de Castella, supports innovative research being conducted at the Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc). Fundraising is open until September 30. You can donate at http://decastellarun.gofundraise.com.au/payments/donate/beneficiary/708. 2013 AMREP student information night very successful
There was a spectacular turnout for the 15 August 2013 AMREP student information tonight. Over 200 attended, some coming with their parents, chatted to potential supervisors, went on lab tours, and ate 104 pizzas! We had presentations from Prof Steve Jane (introducing the school), Prof Sharon Lewin (clinical research), A/Prof David Curtis (basic research), Jodie Abramovitch (as our representative student), and A/Prof Mark Wright (Honours coordinator), then it was a free-for-all as students visited all the research groups who had set up displays and exhibitions during the evening. See Student info night gallery, and more about Honours at CCS.
Participants sought: Tibolone for menopausal depression
Two new clinical trials aim to discover the best treatment approach for the understudied depression that affects a large proportion of women in their late forties and fifties prior to, during or post menopause. These trials compare the effectiveness of a hormone treatment (Tibolone) for women with depression related to menopause, and that of standard antidepressant medication. Interested persons should contact Tamsyn Van Rheenen on 9076 5031 or Emmy Gavrilidis on 9076 6913 or visit www.maprc.org.au. For more about the study, see Monash story.
