AMA Victoria President's Award for Prof John Wilson

Congratulations to Professor John Wilson AM on winning the 2019 Australian Medical Association (AMA) Victoria President’s Award. The award is a recognition by the AMA President of an outstanding contribution toward furthering the objectives of the AMA through advocacy.


The award recognises Professor Wilson's substantial academic and clinical career as a respiratory physician. A pioneering clinician-researcher, Professor Wilson has participated as investigator or principal investigator in over 100 clinical trials since 1992, and is currently involved in 14 active clinical studies on gene modulating agents.

Amongst many other achievements, Professor Wilson has been a long-standing member of AMA Victoria, a Chair of the AMAV Committee of Chairs of Senior Medical Staff at Public Hospitals, and a Councillor. Professor Wilson spearheaded the advocacy efforts to develop the strategy for the 2017 Enterprise Bargaining Agreement and developed the Hospital Health Check tool which successfully surveys hospital doctors across Victoria on their working conditions.
