Welcome Dr Fiona Bodey to new Medical Education role

Dr Fiona BodeyAssociate Professor Anne Powell
Congratulations to Associate Professor Anne Powell and Dr Fiona Bodey on their new appointments respectively as Director of Alfred Health's Physician Education program and interim (until Dec 2021) Director of Central Clinical School's (CCS) Medical Education program.

Professor Terry O'Brien, CCS Head, writes:

Dear CCS Staff and Students,

It is with a mixture of sadness and excitement that I announce some significant changes in the leadership of Medical Education at CCS, Monash University, commencing Monday 7 September.

As many of you will have seen from the announcement last week by Prof. Harvey Newnham, A/Prof. Anne Powell has accepted the offer to take up the newly restructured Director of Physician Education (DPE) at the Alfred. As a result, Anne will not be able to continue her current role as the Director of Medical Student Education at CCS, but thankfully has accepted our offer of a smaller fractional role of Senior Medical Education Fellow, CCS, to continue to support the medical education in CCS, including and mentoring Dr Fiona Bodey who has been appointed interim CCS Director of Medical Student Education till the end of 2021.

Fiona is a talented young endocrinologist, general physician and medical educator, who has done a fantastic job as CCS Year 3B coordinator role. She knows the Monash Medical Course well, and is passionately enthusiastic about medical education, and I am confident that she will do a superb job in this key leadership role for our students and school, supported by Anne and the outstanding Medical Education team Anne has built over her 5 years as Director of Medical Student Education CCS.

Fiona will also be commencing a new post-graduate medical education role at Alfred Health, as one of two Deputy DPE, under Anne’s leadership. Fiona and Anne’s dual roles will help further strengthen and develop the important relationships between Monash University Medical Education at CCS, and post-graduate medical education at Alfred Health.

Anne’s new CCS role as Senior Medical Education Fellow will include an innovative program to develop fee paying courses in the undergraduate and postgraduate medical education space (clinical and professional development) in partnership with Alfred Health.  This includes the development of a Masters of Internal Medicine course targeted at advanced trainees and junior consultants in medicine and surgery.

Please join with me in congratulating Fiona on her new appointment, and in thanking Anne for the outstanding job she has done over the last 5 years as Director of Medical Student Education CCS, which has been nothing short of transformational for our Medical Education Program, and wish them both all the best for their new challenges as they commence the next chapters of their Medical Education careers.

Regards,

Terry
