Congratulations to Associate Professor Gemma Sharp on her promotion

A/Prof  Gemma Sharp joins CCS's Department of Neuroscience

We are delighted to announce that Gemma Sharp has been promoted to Associate Professor, and she and her research group have joined the Department of Neuroscience. Welcome Gemma!
Associate Professor Sharp is a researcher, lecturer and clinical psychologist who is very well known for pioneering research in body image, eating disorders and digital mental health interventions (e.g. chatbots and mobile apps).

From January 2023, Gemma will hold a joint appointment with the Statewide Women’s Mental Health Service at Alfred Health where she will be the Senior Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Research Lead. Part of the service will specialise in the treatment of eating disorders in adults in both outpatient and residential settings.

Since the award of her PhD in 2017, Gemma has led collaborative eating disorder treatment projects with national eating disorder support organisations across the globe. Her research career in both Medical Science and Mental Health has seen her study and work in Australia, Japan and the UK. 

She has published more than 55 research outputs in high quality journals and amassed more than $5 million in research funding. Her research excellence has been recognised with over 50 awards including the US-based Association for Psychological Science Rising Star Award, and most recently the Club Melbourne Fellowship.

Gemma's research has received extensive coverage in mainstream media and she has made over 200 media appearances in her career. She was named one of ABC Radio National's Top 5 Under 40 Scientists in 2017 and also was invited to deliver a TED talk in Brisbane in 2017.
