Trisha Peel has been promoted to full Professor

Dear CCS Colleagues and Students,

We are delighted to announce the academic promotion of Trisha Peel from the Department of Infectious Diseases to full Professor. Trisha will also take on the role of Deputy Director of Research for the Department of Infectious Diseases, Central Clinical School, Monash University. 

Professor Peel is an outstanding Infectious Diseases clinician-researcher who was awarded her PhD at University of Melbourne in 2014 and completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Mayo Clinic, USA. Her research focuses on large-scale randomised controlled trials and implementation science in perioperative infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship, and this intersects ideally with her clinical interests and role as the clinical lead for the Alfred Antimicrobial Stewardship service.

Central Clinical School's excellence in clinical trials has been recognised once again with three of our researchers successful in the latest round of the NHMRC Clinical Trials and Cohort Studies Scheme funding, announced on 24 May.

Congratulations to Professor Sam El-Osta, Associate Professor Trisha Peel and Professor Patrick Kwan on their successful applications. A/Prof Peel was successful earlier this year for the CALIPSO project under the MRFF RCRDUN scheme.

Together, the three grants total more than $11.7 million - 15.5% of the $75.3 million funding allocated to the 33 successful trials in this round - and cover critical health issues including diabetes, antimicrobial resistance, epilepsy and intensive care.

$19.3 million for rare cancer and rare disease research

Researchers in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences will receive $19,324,213 under the 2021 Rare Cancers, Rare Diseases and Unmet Need (RCRDUN) grant opportunity.

Dr Trisha Peel has received an NHMRC
Research Excellence Award CDF 1

Congratulations to Dr Trisha Peel, one of four Monash researchers who have been honoured with awards from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for Research Excellence.

Dr Peel was Top Ranked Career Development Fellow (CDF) 1 in the Clinical field, for her research on optimising patient outcomes following surgery —bridging the fields of antimicrobial stewardship, microbiology and infection prevention. She is an infectious diseases physician in the  Department of Infectious Diseases at Central Clinical School and Alfred Health.
