Volunteers are sought by the Department of Gastroenterology, Monash University for a dietary study and research study entailing respectively the consumption of a diet low or high in natural salicylates for 4 weeks (all meals provided), and a diagnostic salicylate test. Salicylates are chemicals that occur naturally in many plants to protect the plants against insects and diseases.
The trials involve:
a) Study on dietary treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). You may be suitable to take part in the dietary study if you
- are 18 years or older
- experience IBS symptoms including abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating, diarrhoea, constipation
- consuming a diet low or high in natural salicylates for 4 weeks (all meals provided)
- collecting a single blood sample and completing food and symptom diaries.
- are 18 years or older
- have Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease (AERD) with asthmatic symptoms on consumption of Aspirin
