Professor Merlin Thomas |
The award will support research into a new inhibitor which could help prevent and treat diabetes-related complications including heart attack, stroke or limb amputation.
Professor Thomas and his team have identified a key process through which these complications can occur, and developed a 'smart’ inhibitor to selectively target this dangerous pathway.
It is anticipated that this research could lead to a much-needed new treatment for the development and progression of complications in type 2 diabetes.
The DARP Millennium Award will provide $150,000 over two years to support Prof Thomas's research.
