A+ Gender Equity Initiative Event: "The Care(er) Factor"

Join us on Tuesday 12 November, at 3-4 pm in the A+ Lecture Theatre for "The Care(er) Factor: Balancing Work and Family in 2019", hosted by the A+ Gender Equity Initiative.

As highlighted by Jocalyn Clark, executive editor of The Lancet, at The Alfred's Grand Round last week (7 Nov 2019), the fight for gender equality in medical research is one of the defining issues of our time, and both women and men stand to benefit enormously from a more equal playing field.

One key factor in moving the needle on gender equality is in the management of caring responsibilities, and ensuring that men and women are afforded the same opportunities to contribute within both the work and domestic spheres.

"The Care(er) Factor" will unpick some of the threads raised by Jocalyn with an insightful presentation by Prof Franca Ronchese from New Zealand's Malaghan Institute of Medical Research and a panel discussion featuring a diverse range of staff from across the Alfred Research Alliance.

The discussion will take in topics including parental leave, caring for elderly relatives, career breaks, the implications for supervisors managing staff with caring responsibilities, as well as the structural change required to support gender equality.

Whether you are a parent or not, at some point we will all face the challenges of achieving work/life balance - come along to get practical tips and tricks on making the juggle just that little bit easier.

All precinct staff and students are warmly invited to attend, no registration required.

Tuesday 12 November, 3-4pm, Lecture Theatre, Education Centre
