Dear colleagues and extended Monash community,

We are seeking your time for approximately one hour per month (take the survey here) to support our Monash parent community.  Home-schooling parents, juggling professional commitments are perhaps the most impacted by extended lockdown.  This disproportionately affects our early career colleagues and graduate students -- most profoundly those with children in prep - grade 2.

Professor Robyn Slattery is Central Clinical School's Director of Education. She writes:

Huge thanks to Sharmila Ramesh (CCS Graduate Research Student Services Coordinator) and Georgia Fuller Symons (CCS Honours Student Services Officer and Department of Neuroscience PhD candidate) for running such a fabulous event.  Also thank-you to all of the contributors.  The event ran very smoothly.  

There were 220 attendees who were very active, asking 130 questions via the chat function, and very actively engaging in the break-out groups.  Neuroscience, Immunology, Australian Centre for Blood Diseases and Burnet Institute breakout groups were well attended with between 5-25 participants in each.

New Translational Medicine units available for graduate research students

Three new Translational Medicine Coursework units were launched on Monday 3 August by the Central Clinical School's (CCS) Education Team, headed by Professor Robyn Slattery. From 2021 these units will be offered as part of the new Master of Clinical Research - Translational Medicine course. See the handbook links for detail:

• Clinical and Translational Immunology
• Clinical and Translational Bioinformatics

Thanks to the enthusiastic support of the Head of School, Prof Steve Jane, I am delighted to announce the Inaugural Central Clinical School Teacher Innovation and Impact Award. 

The CCS Teacher Innovation and Impact Award is designed to recognise the innovations educators are making in their teaching practice and delivery that have a positive impact on the student learning experience.

The Department of Immunology and Pathology inaugural Gala Poster Presentation function was a great success, with 30 different group of students participating. The event was coordinated by Professor Robyn Slattery in conjunction with Associate Professor Colin Jevons, Acting Associate Dean, Learning and Teaching, Monash Business School, as the aim of the event was to feature the science and encourage the students to communicate effectively. Congratulations to Professor Robyn Slattery who has been appointed as the new Director of Undergraduate (non-MBBS) and Post-graduate Education in the Central Clinical School. This appointment aligns with a restructure of our Education group, to provide tailored support to the individual teaching streams (undergrad Human Pathology (HUP) and Immunology; Honours; BMedSc(Hons); Translational PhD).

The Department of Immunology and Pathology inaugural Gala Poster Presentation function was a great success, with 30 different group of students participating. The event was coordinated by Associate Professor Robyn Slattery in conjunction with Associate Professor Colin Jevons of the Department of Marketing, as the aim of the event was to not only feature the science, but encourage the students to communicate effectively about it.

Congratulations to A/Prof Robyn Slattery on two teaching awards!

Associate Professor Robyn Slattery

Congratulations to Associate Professor Robyn Slattery in the Department of Immunology and Pathology, who has won two separate awards for teaching excellence! Robyn won the
inaugural Monash University Office of Learning and Teaching Teacher Innovation and Impact Award, in particular for her innovation of Duet lectures.

Robyn’s teaching and learning innovation has been judged as outstanding by the selection committee.

Robyn also won the 2016 Monash Student Association (MSA) Teaching Award for the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences.
