Congratulations to Professor Robyn O'Hehir for being awarded the Order of Australia


Congratulations to Professor Robyn O'Hehir for being awarded the Order of Australia at Officer level on Australia Day 2016. The Officer of the Order of Australia is awarded for distinguished service of a high degree to Australia or humanity at large and is to recognise outstanding achievement and service. The Order of Australia was awarded to Professor O'Hehir for "...distinguished service to clinical immunology and respiratory medicine as an academic and clinician, to tertiary education, and to specialist health and medical organisations”. 


Professor O'Hehir is the head of the
Department of Allergy, Immunology and Respiratory Medicine (AIRMed) and head of the Allergy laboratory within the Department of Immunology and PathologyShe was the first physician appointed as a Professor of Allergy in Australia, with over 240 publications and 11,000 citations, and is one of the first women to be appointed to a senior academic medical post in Australia. Professor O’Hehir has been a key figure in advocacy, policy development and community service for those affected by respiratory allergy, asthma and cystic fibrosis in the UK and in Australia. She served as State President of the Australasian Society for Clinical Immunology and Allergy, as well as a non-executive Director on the Board of Cabrini Health and a member of the Menzies Foundation Council. She is honoured to be a Life Governor of Asthma Victoria, a Fellow of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Science.

This latest award is just one of many that recognises Professor O'Hehir's ongoing commitment to clinical and research excellence.
