Welcome to Professor Paul Zimmet AO, Professor of Diabetes at Monash University and formerly Director Emeritus, Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute!

Paul has a lifelong interest in diabetes, starting with his PhD. He was also a pioneer in the epidemiology of diabetes, being the first WHO appointment invited to survey various Pacific island nation populations. In 1984, he founded the International Diabetes Institute which merged with the Baker Institute in 2008, becoming the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute. Paul’s research predicted and has charted the evolving global type 2 diabetes epidemic.  In 1999, he designed and led the team that undertook the first national diabetes and lifestyle study, AusDiab.

Congratulations to Professor Jayashri Kulkarni on her election as Fellow to the prestigious Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS)! The Academy was established to provide an impartial and authoritative voice for healthcare. See their 6 October press release.

Jayashri is a recognised leader in the field of mental health, in particular as an advocate for women's mental health. She is Director of the Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre.

Congratulations also to Professors John McNeil, Susan Davis and Catriona McLean on their election as AAHMS Fellows! All four new Fellows are based at AMREP. See detail at:

Shout out for MAPRC: 11 Oct Mental Health Week launch

The Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre team is going to be at the Mental Health Week launch, on Tuesday 11 October, 2016 from 5.00pm – 7.30pm at The Edge Theatre, Federation Square. The team will have a stall, and be able, ready and willing to answer any question you like to ask about mental health research, therapies and treatments.
