Translational Research skills have become an important part of life at Monash's three metropolitan clinical schools. Significant findings and discoveries made in the lab can often get lost in their conversion to clinical practice and everyday medical treatments.

Curiosity and a compelling hypothesis prompted clinician and haematology researcher, Associate Professor Stephen Ting, to revisit the subject matter of his PhD a decade later. The findings of his recent study into the transcription factors of an ancient gene family known as the Grainyhead-like (Grhl) genes have revealed more than he expected and may have implications for future neuroscientific research.

Call out for reading material for ages 0-12 years for Bali school

2 May 2017 update: Many thanks to all those who have contributed. The book drive has been a great success with over 600 books donated and no more can be taken. We're looking forward to seeing photos of the freshly stocked library!

Former SPHPM colleague, Andy McGrath worked at the Alfred Campus for several years prior to moving to Bali for his young son's health in 2014.  Andy is a qualified school teacher, who with his wife Sabrina, set up an Early Learning Centre and now a Primary School (Stella Mundi Primary School). The latter is due to open in Bali later this year.

29 April 2016 Day of Immunology (DoI) at GTAC. Many schools participated in the day, where students get hands-on experience with lab techniques. Monash Central Clinical School PhD students were volunteer demonstrators. Mahtab Parvaresh (right) demonstrates correct technique for multi-channel pipetting.
 

This year's DoI program of activities is extensive, including: Immunology art exhibitions (kicked off 6 April), discovery tours, secondary school workshops, vaccination café and public lecture. From our Department of Immunology and Pathology the following people have volunteered their time to be a part of the organizing committee for these events: Dimitra Zotos, Jodie Abramovitch, Katharine Goodall, Maria Demaria and Angela Nguyen. Our generous volunteer demonstrators this year are PhD students Mahtab Parvaresh, Angela Nguyen and Timothy Gottschalk, and from Clayton, Dr Maria Demaria.
