Immunology "Cutting Edge" Friday seminars kicking off 5 Feb

"Cutting Edge Immunology” sessions were initiated in 2015, in which an important new paper in the broad field of immunology is discussed each week by young scientists as part of their training in reading, presenting and discussing new and significant research. This continues in 2016 and the first session is on Friday 5 Feb.

Maria Demaria (pictured) will be presenting on the topic: "An innate antiviral pathway acting before interferons at epithelial surfaces". The authors here challenge the current concept of interferons (IFNs) being the first line of defence against viruses, and try to convince us that an innate antiviral pathway works at epithelial surfaces before the IFNs. This mechanism is dependent on viral O-linked glycans, which induce CXCR3 chemokines and stimulate antiviral activity in a manner dependent on neutrophils.

As many groups outside of the Department of Immunology and Pathology also study immunological processes, we invite whoever is interested to join!
