Participants sought: Synchronising brain rhythms with mild electrical stimulation

Neural activity patterns. Wikipedia
The Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre is seeking healthy adults between the ages of 18 and 45 to help us investigate how people experience gentle electrical brain stimulation.

Participation will involve visiting our research centre in Prahran for three sessions. In each session you will undergo a short session of non-invasive brain stimulation and we will ask you questions about your experience of the stimulation and also record your brain activity. Each session will take between 2-3 hours to complete. You will be compensated $20 per session.

If you would like more details or might be interested in participating, please contact Dr Aron Hill, email aron.hill@monash.edu

Fabien Vincent
Aron Hill was conferred with his PhD award in March of this year. The thesis is titled, "A neurophysiological investigation into optimised approaches to transcranial Direct Current Stimulation for neurocognitive enhancement". Aron was supervised by A/Prof Kate Hoy, Prof Paul Fitzgerald, Dr Nigel Rogasch, Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre. See more about Aron's research in a profile feature.

Fabien Vincent (right) likewise received his PhD award in March. His thesis is titled, "The BAFF/APRIL system: emerging new and unappreciated biomarkers in autoimmunity". His supervisors were Prof Fabienne Mackay (previously Head of the Monash University Department of Immunology and Pathology) and Prof Eric Morand (Head, School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health).

Three Minute Thesis competition
By Eliza Watson

Aron Hill is a PhD student in the Cognitive Therapeutics Research Group at MAPrc where he is supervised by A/Prof Kate Hoy, Dr Nigel Rogasch and Prof Paul Fitzgerald. He studied psychology in his undergraduate degree and decided to pursue it for Honours where he began looking at brain stimulation, he has continued his interest in this area through his PhD.

Participants sought: Does memory and brain plasticity improve with non-invasive brain stimulation?

The Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc) is currently seeking healthy right-handed adult participants aged between 18-60 years to take part in a study investigating the effects of non-invasive brain stimulation on improving memory and brain plasticity. The study involves the use of a new form of non-invasive brain stimulation known as ‘High Definition Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (HD-tDCS) which is a painless, safe, and non-invasive means of stimulating nerve cells in the brain. Brain activity will be recoded using TMS and EEG and memory will be studied via neuropsychological tests.

The Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc) is currently seeking healthy right-handed volunteers aged between 18 to 60 years to take part in a study using Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) to improve memory and brain plasticity. tDCS is a safe, painless and non-invasive means of stimulating nerve cells in the brain. Participation will involve attending the MAPrc for three separate 2-3 hour testing sessions.
