With dementia being one of the leading causes of death and a significant cause of disability in Australia, particularly in older populations, most of us will—at some stage, and in some way—be touched by the disease. 

The Consumer and Researcher Engagement (CARE) Committee in the Central Clinical School is offering a webinar on Wednesday 18 May at 5.30-7.00 pm which will cover a range of relevant topics and perspectives relating to dementia, from the perspectives of those affected by the disease, clinicians, and researchers. Monash University/UCL Perioperative Medicine Short Course 2022

Monash University and University College London (UCL) Perioperative Medicine Short Course 2022 (July and October)

Perioperative medicine is an emerging field of medicine that has developed in response to the increasing age and complexity of patients and in the number of surgical procedures being performed. The course has been developed as a collaboration between perioperative medicine experts at both Monash University and University College London and aims to provide a comprehensive overview of topics considered important in the field.

Congratulations to Dr Leo Chen on his PhD completion

Congratulations to Dr Leonard Chen on his PhD completion, on 16 March 2022. Leo was supervised by Professor Paul Fitzgerald and Professor Kate Hoy in CCS's Department of Psychiatry. His thesis is titled, "Improving Efficacy and Efficiency of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) Therapy in Major Depression and Comorbid Anxiety."

Leo's thesis examined repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation’s (rTMS) parameters and scheduling to optimise its efficacy and efficiency in treating depression. Depression is a common mental illness that often presents with anxiety symptoms, both of which can be difficult to treat.

Ms Alex Dimitropoulos

Ms Alex Dimitropoulos is a PhD student in the Department of Diabetes, and has been the student representative on the Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) committee of the Central Clinical School. The GEDI chair, Dr Jessica Borger, writes:

"I wanted to acknowledge what an outstanding job Alex performed in her role within the committee. I was also very impressed by her confidence to participate actively in all of our meetings, and present and discuss the issues of students at the CCS so eloquently.
