‘Building Resilience: Communities and Connections’
This month the Central Clinical School's (CCS) Gender, Equity and Diversity (GEDI) committee has shared resources to encourage all staff and students to reflect on their own mental health, as well as the mental health of their family, friends and colleagues throughout the CCS. We acknowledge that the mental health of all staff is of the highest importance all year round, and hope that some of the resources and seminars we have highlighted might be useful. Revisit any of our blog posts here.
Online events of interest this week include (see detail below):
- 24 Oct: Smoking and mental Health Forum
- 25 Oct: Drug abuse and mental Health Forum
- 27 Oct: Growing healthy veggies seminar
Monday 24 October 10:00am - 12:00pm - Smoking and mental health forum
The focus of this symposium will be on the connection between smoking and mental health. Although there has been a large reduction in smoking rates over time, smoking remains a major risk factor contributing to the health, social and economic inequalities in Australia. Furthermore, vaping and the use of electronic cigarettes has also increased. Topics discussed may include the development of mental illness and the mechanisms behind tobacco addiction, exacerbation of mental illness through smoking use, cognitive impacts of smoking, smoking trends within different cultures, general health and wellbeing implications as well as discussion around public health campaigns and what more has to be done within this field.
