Newly appointed Associate Professor Shaun Fleming in the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases |
We have the pleasure to announce the appointment of Shaun Fleming as the Head of the Myeloid Disorders Service at Alfred Health. This is a conjoint appointment with Monash University, as Associate Professor in Australian Centre for Blood Disorders (ACBD), Central Clinical School.
Associate Professor Shaun Fleming is a clinical and laboratory haematologist who has been working at the Alfred since 2014 initially as the Acute Leukaemia fellow and then as a consultant haematologist with a focus on Acute Leukaemia, Stem Cell Transplantation and measurable residual disease (MRD) assessment.
A/Prof Fleming's doctoral thesis explored the application of machine learning to prognostication of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) and post-transplant MRD assessment. He is the principal investigator on several clinical trials in acute leukaemia in addition to leading the national Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group ALL08 study in older adults with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, leads the LS24 study into assessing older adults’ response to MRD directed therapies in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) and co-chairing the Leukaemia Foundation Optimal Care Pathway in ALL. He has ongoing research interests in AI and machine learning in prognostic models, novel therapies in acute leukaemia and on application of measurable residual disease in acute leukaemia management.
Myeloid Disorders are an area of considerable focus both in Clinical Haematology and in the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases and translational focus will be strengthened under Shaun's leadership.
